Mt Hood Nordic/Teacup Junior Athlete of the Year- Fergus Waag

The Mt Hood Nordic Coaches and Teacup Board have selected Fergus Waag as the 22-23 Season Junior Athlete of the year.  This was his first season racing a full Junior National Qualifier Series.  He qualified and completed at Junior Nationals in Fairbanks AK. This accomplishment, his excellent results racing for the Hood River Valley High School Nordic Team, and his calm, coachable demeanor make him an easy choice to be recognized.  

Some highlights of his season:

  • Podium place at the Bend JNQ skate distance race
  • Racing at the regional Super Qualifier in Soldier Hollow, UT
  • Qualifying and racing at US Junior Nationals in Fairbanks, AK
  • 2nd Place at High School State Championships Mass Start Skate Race.
His coaches are happy Fergus will be a senior next year and is motivated to be back for one more season, before he heads off to pursue his education focusing on engineering.
